Brett Mckenzie

Residential Life/Services Officer

Hey! I'm Brett and I have been working in the Residential Life Officer position since the beginning of 2014. I am responsible for organising events, facilitating the Live, Learn & grow programme within our Villages and providing pastoral care for our residents. I am a UC graduate with a bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology. During my studies I stayed within halls of residence for three years, so I can relate to most experiences of hall life. I’m really enjoying working with young adults, guiding them through their transition into independence and showing them that you can still have lots of fun while you are studying

Sarah Lonergan

Residential Life/Services Officer

Hey! I'm Sarah, your Residential Life Officer here at Waitakiri Village. I look forward to meeting you all, and working with you to help you succeed in your first year at University with our Live, Learn and Grow programme.

In 2017 i’ll be in my second year of my social work degree. My favourite place in New Zealand is Queenstown in the middle of winter, or closer to home; Governors Bay on a warm day. In my spare time you can find me at the gym, probably training for another powerlifting comp or plotting how best to use my course related costs for an overseas adventure. My favourite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt, actually I have two. “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” and “You must do the things you think you cannot do”. In a nutshell, take control of how you feel and go and do all the things!

In 2017 I’ll be getting through my second year studying Mechatronics engineering. If I had to have a favourite place in NZ, it’d definitely be Queenstown, half for the skiing and half for the partying. When I’ve got spare time, I love drone filming and photography, it lets me explore and see awesome things! My parting quote to you would be, “'Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it” – Forest Gump.
