Lentil As Anything
Located: 1-3 St Heliers St, Abbotsford
Lentil As Anything is probably one of the best places to go if you’re strapped for cash but you want a cheap and healthy meal. You come in, you eat, you relax, and then you make a donation of your choice before you leave. The whole thing is based on trust and generosity, so give within your means, but give nonetheless. It’s all multicultural and vegetarian cuisine, so give it a go!
Located: 89 Station St, Fairfield
And now for the carnivores… If you’re one of the many pilgrims travelling across land and sea to find the best burger, give this place a go. Not shying away from a challenge, Grill Station has just about every burger combination under the sun. If you love your meat then try The Yorker, or if you’re a veggie lover, go no further than the Europa!
Located: 538 Heidelberg Rd, Alphington
This little café is unique in that its smack-bang on a busy Melbourne road, yet it provides an atmosphere of quiet and comfort once inside. Aptly named as an acronym for ‘a place to eat’, the APTE Café have great coffee and an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. Being voted Victoria’s most popular café by readers in the Delicious Café Awards, this place is not to be overlooked! Try the Spanish Baked Eggs for breakfast or the Braised Lamb for lunch. Located: 250 High Street, Northcote
Wesley Anne is one of those places that is constantly changing and improving on itself. With live music almost every weekend, this place has more good vibes than it has room for! They’ve got some great options to choose from in their kitchen, but the real good stuff is behind the bar. From Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey to Espresso Martini’s, Wesley’s is where it’s at for a good time. If you’re having a big night, order the Baked Ricotta Gnocchi before you get started!
Located: 196 Brunswick St. Fitzroy
Living up to its name, The Perseverance stops at nothing to deliver the goods on a Friday or Saturday night. With a history of more than 100 years, it’s one of the most popular bars in Fitzroy, and they know how to pour a drink. You can grab a meal here, or if you’re out for a big night they’ve got a bar and nightclub as well. Thursday is Uni Night, that means free entry, cheap drinks and good times! If you ask at the bar for a Perserverance Student Card they can hook you up with cheap meals, drinks AND discounted event tickets. You can even tell them you’re coming with your mates online so you don’t have to wait in line. Need we say more?
Stolberg Beer Café
Located: 197 Plenty Road, Preston
Okay beer lovers, it’s your time to shine. The Stolberg is the place to sate your every beer-loving hops-hungering yeast-yearning desire. Their Likor Lounge encompasses sophistication and style, while the Stolberg Room is warm, intimate and cosy for social gatherings. They’ve just finished their new Garden Bar, open until 3am every Friday, so you don’t have to go all around the city looking for the perfect venue! The beer is cold and the vibe is fresh, check it out!
