got questions?

We've got answers to the common questions that people ask when they want to stay at the Village. If you don't see your answer here, we're just an email or phone call away!
Am I eligible for accommodation at UNSW Village?

If you’re a student at UNSW you are eligible to apply for accommodation at UNSW Village. Research assistants and full-time, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students are all welcome! Because we have a limited number of rooms, it’s best to apply early to secure your spot!

Are pets allowed?

UNSW Village isn’t set up to cater for pets. Therefore, no pets (including fish) may be kept at the Village, nor are residents permitted to bring animals into any building in the Village. This rule does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog.

Are priorities given to particular students?

The Village hosts a diverse range of residents from all over the world and across Australia, and we see this as a true strength of our community. To ensure fairness, we don’t give preference to any group over others. Therefore we encourage all applicants to submit the relevant forms as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Can I choose my flatmates?

If you have a bestie you’d like to stay with, let us know and we’ll do our best to assign you the same apartment. All you have to do is include your request in our application form. Given our high demand, we can’t guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we’ll definitely try our best to accommodate you. The earlier you and your friend apply, the easier it is for us to assign you to the same apartment.

Can my partner live with me?

Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends can apply for accommodation at UNSW Village, as long as they are students at UNSW. Couples will be provided with individual rooms, however you can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment. One bedroom apartments are single occupancy only.

Do you provide a cleaning service?

We get it, cleaning is a pain sometimes! But it’s important to keep your apartment clean to keep your flatmates happy and the Village in good condition. All residents are responsible for keeping their rooms and apartments clean. If you need some help, we are able to organise a cleaning service for a fee. Come ask us at Reception for more information.

Do you provide internet access?

Yes we do! Surf the web from the kitchen to the common room with broadband connectivity in every bedroom and wi-fi throughout the Village. Internet packages can be purchased through our internet provider, Big Air, when you connect your computer to the network. We also have an e-library with computers and laptop connectivity where you can access the internet using your BigAir data.

How close is UNSW Village to the University and the CBD?

When we say we’re close to uni facilities, we mean it. UNSW Village is located on High Street, right on the main Kensington campus. It takes approximately five minutes to walk to the main courtyard and just two minutes to walk to the UNSW Sport and Recreation Centre. As for the city, you can get a bus from Anzac Parade to Central in 20 minutes.

How is UNSW Village different to a college?

UNSW Village offers a self-catered, apartment-style living experience with no religious affiliations, traditions, hierarchies or set meal times. This means you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want (within reason of course)!

While we do offer an independent lifestyle, we ensure support is available 24 hours a day, along with a range of exciting events and activities to help you meet new people and learn new skills. In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence that you just won’t find anywhere else!

How long are your residential agreements?

UNSW Village runs on a 52 week residential agreement much like private rental accommodation in the area. This allows residents constant access to rooms and facilities mid year and throughout the summer period. It means that you dont have to spend time and money moving and is especially convenient if you want to stay in the same room next year (subject to UNSW Village offering you a room).

If you choose to go away for the summer holiday, you can always put your room in the letting pool and we’ll endeavour to secure you a fee rebate by renting it to conference guests and other visitors.

Is catering available?

UNSW Village encourages a self-catered, independent lifestyle, so we don’t provide catering for residents. However healthy meals can be purchased from the on-site café, and there is an IGA supermarket right across the road. How much more convenient could you get!

Each apartment also features kitchen facilities including a fridge, stovetop and microwave. If you need some tips, we run regular cooking classes throughout the year so you’ll be whipping up delicious meals in no time! If you’re in the mood to eat out, we’re just minutes from Anzac Parade’s array of shops and restaurants.

What do I need to bring with me when I check in?

To make packing easy, we’ve put together a list of the essentials that you might want to bring with you when you arrive at UNSW Village:

• Bed linen, including quilts/blankets and pillows (we have king single beds in studio and multi-share apartments and double beds in one bedroom apartments)
